Walter considered it, and in a flash of light Reed himself appeared beside his trainer with a happy coo. He would rather be prepared than caught off by anything they fished up. Reed noticed Jimmy and tilted his head, looking at him curiously as he hopped alongside Walter to the boat.
"Have you rented out a fishing pole?" Walter had. The fisherman who had accepted his money had tried to go into the deep mechanics of fishing, along with the different baits, seasons and lake conditions to consider. Walter had...vaguely listened. It was difficult to take all in, even if he would have been deeply interested.
"Yup! All set. I ain't never done it with a real fishing pole before. I mean I used handmade ones, but...they weren't nice like this. And half the time they broke." But it had still been fun. This was just gonna be a lot more fun.
"Hey, Reed!" Jimmy grins and waves to the Pokemon like he were another person. "Looking good!"
You can practically feel the excited energy coming off of Jimmy.

Reed puffed up his chest proudly. He always looks good and he knows it, but he loves having it acknowledged! He extended a wing in greeting, giving a flourish.
Walter was actually very casual about stepping on the boat. He'd been taken rowing a few times on Toluca Lake, usually in regard to some religious ceremony. The lake was considered a place of Holy power; i'ts partly why he had requested to be buried nearby it. He sat down with their rods and bait, and promptly had to deal with Reed trying to sit on him.
Jimmy laughed, following Walter into the boat and trying not to be obvious about the fact he's never really done this before. Wow, boats rocked a lot...he wasn't expecting that.
"Huh, feels kinda...wobbly? That normal? I don't really know nothing about boats..."
Walter looked way more at ease with this whole thing.
"It will settle when you sit. As long you do not rock the boat or thrash, it will not overturn." He straightened his back, forcing Reed to give up on his efforts to get on his shoulders. The Decidueye gave a hoot and instead sat beside him...and practically glued to his side. Walter exhaled out of his nose, quite used to these antics it seemed.
"Have you never been rowing before?" He looked for the oars. Lake Toluca traditionally held rowboats on it's surface; for aesthetic reasons, some old law or to preserve the quiet and stillness, Walter didn't know.
Walter did, in fact, despite it being several years (even before his death a decade ago) since he had been on Lake Toluca. He took the oars and paddled out, remembering the motion and the rhythm as he took the boat out to the lake. Once they were confortably far fromt he shore, he rested the oars and picke dup his fishing rod.
