[ Hello! You have reached: "Walter Sullivan". Unfortunately they cannot answer the phone right now. Leave a message after the beep and they will return your call. ]
Diana spares Jennifer a quick glance before shrugging and giving Walter a wry smile. "Don't worry about it, Walt. Caine's the exact same way. Sass too, actually. But not as much."
She follows them and looks impressed at Darkness' choice. "Hey, that's cute. Want to try it on?" She flashes Darkness a grin again. "Someone has taste."
They spend the next few minutes perusing the aisles, picking out ones with images of Walter's team and that Diana likes the style of. Sometimes they agree but Diana does push any he refuses. She does wrinkle her noise at any she personally finds offense though.
Jennifer's presence seems to do nothing to dissuade Diana from getting close to Walter when she wants to see how he'd look in something. In fact, Diana seems to giving Jennifer sly looks everytime the word 'Walt' passes her lips. Charlie seems blissfully unaware of any hidden animosity towards his trainer.
When they come across a line of Vuplix print shirts with cursive passive aggressive comments, Diana gets distracted. Holding one up to her own body and checking the price tag. "Oh my god, I need these."
Darkness beamed pride. Damn right he's got style. Lyra wouldn't have him if he didn't. As they went over clothes, Walter did take notice of Diana's advice. Whenever he went for something more bland, he saw how she would pull a face and would return it. This trip was about Diana...dressing him, in a sense. And he had never known much about fashion. So he let Diana and Darkness instruct him in what to wear, grateful that they respected when he outright refused certain clothes.
As Diana kept getting close to Walter, who was careful to put a few inches better them as subtly as he could, Jennifer kept rising her body temperature in anger. If Diana got too close again, Jennifer was going to rub against her...while at full body temperature.
When Walter saw those tops too, he wandered up beside Diana and picked up one. And smiled a little. He looked over the full selection and wow, there was a lot of good options here. He ended up picking up one with a Kantoian Vulpix and 'Can you not?' written on it, before pausing and picking up another with an Alolan Vulpix and 'Never'. "Which ones are you getting." He asked, his choices draped over his arm with the other tops they had chosen so far.
"Hmm, I think these." Diana's so busy picking up the Kantoian 'Ugh' and Alolan 'Don't Even' it takes her a moment to realize Walter's already holding some.
A grin breaks out across her face, one so wide dimples form in her cheeks.
"You like these kind of shirts? I didn't peg you as the type, Walt."
Walter felt a little self conscious but. Well she hadn't outright teased him on any of his choices, even when she didn't approve of them.
"I was taught to be...careful, in what I said, when I was young. But that doesn't mean I did not," he paused, then amended himself, "Do not, often think it." How often had he mutely called the guards names and thought ill of the priests? So many times. And the same was true now. Among his fellow Rockets, he had some choice thoughts about several of them that he didn't voice, even when they openly mocked him. Wearing his thoughts...it appealed to him, more than wearing a shirt that said 'MY ONIX IS READY'. (Urgh).
Diana's so excited she almost reaches for his hands again, but manages to catch herself at the last moment. Pausing before beckoning him with the same hand instead.
"Come on. There's so many more I want you to check out."
It's not until they've collected so many shirts that they finally resort to using a basket, which they've filled, that Diana allows them to leave this department.
"Want to try these guys on first or head straight for some jeans?" Her eyes carry over the slacks he's wearing.
Walter appreciated that, although he had no idea that him having a secret passive aggressive side would be exciting. Darkness found that Diana certainly had some style, which was adding points towards her in his books. Jennifer however refused to cool off...except for when she was pressing up against Walter. She didn't want to burn him at all.
He hadn't realised they were going pants shopping too. He glanced over to the jeans section thoughtfully. He might as well try it all on at once, to save a little bit of time. "Jeans always looked stiff." It wasn't a no, as he did dutifully head over to look at them. Although the torn/ripped jeans got a very confused look. Why would people buy used, torn up clothing? Darkness also clicked his beak at the style, directing Walter to more typical jeans.
"Some can be. There's different styles." She places the basket down to pace around him. "Plus they get loose after some wear and a wash." She stops behind him to assess the fit of his slacks around his 'backend'.
"Don't worry, I won't force you into any skinny jeans".
Nodding, she heads towards some styles and fits she thinks would work best. "Let's aim for darker colours. Deeps blues and blacks."
He watched her circle him but, realising where she was looking, he turned to face her from the side. Upon seeing where Diana was accessing Walter, Jennifer puffed up with a slight flare indignitily. HOW DARE SHE. If only Walter wasn't right there, the indignant Flareon would heat up her body and press right against Diana's legs but with him watching, she wasn't about to cause harm to a 'friend' of his.
"Skinny jeans?" Those hadn't been around in the 80s - the ripped jeans had but he hadn't understood it any better back then either. When he saw them he couldn't help taking a moment to just stare. How do people wear those and why. But he focused on what he actually intended to wear. "They come in black too? They were always light blue when I saw them."
"Oh yeah." She calls from the organized piles. "They make 'em in every colour now. From yellow to pink."
Diana comes back with a few pairs slung over her arm. "Why?" She smirks. "Wanna give maroon a try?"
Jennifer's side eye does not go unnoticed by the teen. She gives the Pokemon a knowing look as she holds the clothes out to Walter. "Wouldn't you wanna be a matching red set?" She asks the fire type, before winking at Walter.
"I'll stick with dark blue." Bright, neon colours had been the fashion in the 80s but it had also been an eyesore as far as Walter was concerned. Funnily enough, this was one of the few times he had been validated by history.
Jennifer pouted and sat on Walter's feet again. He exhaled and knelt down to subdue his fussy Pokemon. "Jennifer, this is a gift. She's not causing harm." At being told off by Walter, her ears fell to the side of her head and she gave a sad little chirp. She still immensely disliked Diana...but oh no, Walter's not happy with her now.
He stood up straight and murmured to Diana. "She's the first Pokemon I hatched; she wasn't what I expected, but...she's good."
"The first you hatched." Diana frowns in thought, looking down at Jennifer again. "She starts of as an Eevee, right? Heh, go figure. That was the first thing I hatched too."
Diana gives Walt a wry smile. "Please, I only just got you to not resent speaking to me. I don't expect all your guys to suddenly welcome me with open arms."
She pauses to look at the collection of clothes they have gathered. "Yeesh, I went a little crazy. Oh well. Let's go see what they look like on."
Nodding her head in the direction of the changing room, she picks the basket back up.
"Oh? Has yours evolved yet?" He hadn't intended to evolve her immediately but...well. Jennifer had made that decision within ten seconds of her birth. At the mention of their relationship, he averted his eyes.
"...I. Understand that you gave me Sniffer to make yourself feel better. I should have been clearer. ...When I was little, a dog bit me. I've been uncomfortable with them since." Meaning, scared of them. He held his hands together as they walked to the changing rooms. "When I first met Jennifer...I was very nervous of her. Before her, when I first met a Vulpix, I was nervous with them too. I have a two Vulpixes now, and...I don't freeze when she touches me." At his side Jennifer only gave him a sunny, cute look. He gathered his thoughts, waiting for one of the shop assistants to give them a room each.
"...I do resent you for giving me Sniffer. But. I think, in time, I won't." Just as Heather Mason had told him; all these things improved with time. Sniffer certainly wasn't a bad Pokemon. She was very nosy and had a bad tendency to make him jump when she barked, but she didn't go out of her way to cause trouble or get into fights.
"Yeh, it kind of just happened. One minute, tiny and brown." She holds her hands up and about a foot apart, before making a 'poof' noise and extending them out. "The next, big and pink."
They walk, her listening wordlessly. At his admittance, she glances away, chewing the inside of her cheek.
"Well, like I said, s'not like I can blame you for that." There's a short sigh and a shrug before she's back to smiling at him playfully, her default expression.
"Come on, the quicker you try those on, the sooner you can leave and I can stop bothering you with my presence."
Walter glanced to Darkness, who snickered and landed behind Diana. He felt like he was missing something. But he couldn't lie and what he had said was true. In time...he would adapt to Sniffer. And he wouldn't resent Diana for giving her to him. But for now, he was still a little bitter about it. Regardless, he nodded and tried on the clothes. Once he was gone, Darkness lowered his voice to Diana.
"Shy, but blunt." If Walter talked, it was obvious where you stood with him. But he didn't often talk to people to let them know that.
The jeans definitely felt a little strange. Not in an outright bad way, but simply in a new way. After tugging on one of the tops, he considered himself in the mirror. It was...odd, to see on himself. He still didn't know if it looked good or not. But before he stepped out to get Darkness and Diana's judgement, he looked at his arms and paused. He had some long scars on his forearms; not from the orphanage or the prison. They were scars he'd made himself. He tugged a little on the sleeves, regretting the t-shirts now. He glanced at the changing room door and put his hands behind his back as he walked out. A half-hearted effort to hide them, since he knew Diana would want to see how he looked.
She spares Darkness a smile as she slips into her own cubicle. "Blunt is the best way to be."
After stripping down her upper half she catches herself in the mirror, her eyes scan the mars across her stomach and she swiftly pulls a shirt over herself.
When Walter comes out, Diana's scrutinizing herself in a mirror provided nearby. Not the clothes, but her face. Touching the skin on her cheeks and under her eyes, catching her fingers in her dark hair. There's a flash of disgust in her features before she spots Walter.
"Ooo, looking good. I like it." Her eyes are flitting between the shirt and jeans, focused on the clothes. "How do the jeans feel?"
She smirks at his pose. "What, are we at an interview? Relax. Move around in them. Give me the full experience. Are you feeling it?"
He spotted the flash of disgust but didn't comment. He wasn't sure why she would dislike her appearance; Diana seemed confident in herself and quite pretty. "Not as unmoving as I thought it would be."
Reluctantly, Walter lowered his arms, feeling very self conscious. Darkness fluttered to his shoulder and pressed the side of his face to Walter's. "Walk," He suggested, encouraging Walter to do as he's told and to not think too much. He did as instructed and tried moving in them. "...They're comfortable."
Her eyes flicker to his arms for the briefest moment, her lip catches between her teeth but she's already moved on to looking at the shirt again. "Yeah. This work for you."
Diana's brow is furrowed in thought and she taps a slender finger against her chin. "But it's missing something."
A look of realization dawns on her face. "Oh, I know. Go put that Vulpix shirt on. I'm just gonna grab something." She turns and walks off, ignoring the pleas of a clerk trying to explain she can't walk around the store in clothes she hasn't bought yet.
Whilst he's getting changed, there's a knock. Diana stands there, holding a faux brown leather jacket over the top of the door. "Here. Put this over it."
As she waits for him, she makes conversation through the door. "So, you said you had Vulpix...es?" She frowns. What even is the plural of Vulpix? "You got the white ones or the red ones?"
He changed and waited for Diana to return, Darkness giving him soft, reassurance words. When he was handed the jacket he slipped the it on, Darkness hopping from his shoulder. Walter was grateful for the coverage over his arms, and that Diana hadn't said anything about his scars. Darkness looked over the entire outfit. Walter looked entirely different
like this. Much, much younger in fact; he looked his age, not like the thirty something ghost he had been. Darkness nodded his approval to Diana. "Good. Very good." Walter didn't hide a small smile. This was...it felt good. And when he looked int he mirror, it did look good too. Even he could see the difference. He checked the back in case there was something there but it was plain. No surprise Arboks or anything like that.
"One of each. My white Vulpix hatched from the egg given by God, so she has a slightly different colouring. I have her with me." Jennifer perked up and chirped. Yes, Claudia is here too! She liked Claudia; she was a very sensible wise Pokemon, who had a sharp eye on Walter. "Do you have either of them?"
Diana's smiling when Walter check himself out, the corners of her mouth curling up just a little more at Walter and Darkness' approval. Good job, Diana. You're not being awful for once.
"Very stylish." She chuckled to herself a little at him checking the back, amused that he didn't trust her. "We'll definitely add the jacket to the list."
Ignoring the God comment, to each their own after all, Diana nods. "Oh, I have both too. Emma and Evan. Emma kinda showed up last month out of nowhere to help me with Gaia and-" She cuts herself off and waves her hand. "Anyway, she stuck around."
He didn't recognise the name Gaia. Must be a pokemon of hers. But he nodded. "Vulpixes seem to be very temperate Pokemon. Mine are both female, named Bonfire and Claudia." It should be easy to guess which was the fire type name.
He slipped back into the changing room, changing back into the clothing he had worn beforehand. He had tried one of each of the different brands - sizes could vary after all - so he knew that what he had fit him now. He stepped out again, Jennifer immediately at his side and wagging her tail cutely. A thought struck him of the last time he had come shopping here, giving him an idea.
Diana's holding the shirts she picked for herself. "Let's buy this stuff then." She reaches out to take Walter's selection from him so she can run them through at the same time. "And then get some food. Whatcha thinking? Pastry?"
She looks at him as drops the clothes on the counter and she digs her hand through her bag absentmindedly for her purse. "The roof? Erm, no. Why?"
"There's food and drinks up there. I'll pay for that." And since she had taken all of his clothing choices to pay for them - he had been carefully checking the price tags and they weren't anything too much, although he didn't know about the leather jacket - he could at least pay for whatever they ate upstairs.
Darkness cawed his approval, bobbing his head. Yes, the roof! Why, from there he could see the home of his beautiful moonlight and their wonderful little stars~ "I will just need to stop by the TM shop. I had an idea for a gift for Doll before I came here."
At the promise of a paid meal Diana's smiling again. "Well, if you insist."
She follows him with no complaints. "Doll's the cutey you had with you at the festival, right?"
As they enter the TM department Diana looks over the large array of coloured CD's curiously. "Do you use TMs alot?" Honestly, she just taught Taunt to everyone she could because they said it was reusable.
"She is. I have several - you can find them when traveling - and I try to make use of them. Most break after one use." His own re-usable TM was...he didn't want to think about it too much. He used it on Assumption and it had gone missing. He knew his Pokemon kept it; he noticed that they had used it on select team members for whatever reason.
He looked over the selection and found the one he had in mind. TM83 - Infestation. He had told Doll and her eyes had gleamed at the idea, nodding eagerly. He took it to the counter and pulled out his wallet, paying using the money Diana had given him.
"You can? Guess you're better at finding things than me. Me and Jinx haven't run into any."
She continued to peruse the display case, smirking at the one labelled 'Swagger' until Walter asked her a question.
"Lil' Petey? He's fine. I think, it's hard to tell sometimes." She pats the bag at her hip. "He's with me, but if I let him out in here he'd try to make off with all the CD. He loves stuff that reflects." Diana chuckles. "Maybe on the roof."
