The dark aura didn't bother Knife. He knew Merwin was setting up to cause some real damage; but he believed he could finish this fight before those boosts could prove useful to the Houndoom.
While Merwin's thinking, Knife seemed to vanish. Using Feint Attack he managed to disappear for a brief moment, dashing forward to attack Merwin again. The blow would be weak; it's a Dark type attack, Merwin resisted those; but it closed the distance and he followed it up with a lunging Dual Chop.
The Flamethrower hurt, scorching the metal of his body and searing him. He shouted and had to stand back to take the blow. But he endured it. His levels meant he could take the blow.
Knife circled the Houndoom, wary of another fire type attack and looking for an opening. When one came, he'd dart forward again, blades extended for a Slash attack along Merwin's body.
He'd tried to send another blast of fire the Bisharp's way but it'd been too quick. With a growl he takes the Slash across his side.
Shit, that's three hits. Knife is strong, he can't take many more.
Before the Pokemon has a chance to get away, Merwin tries not to pass up this chance and launches into an Inferno, intending to coat the other creature completely in flames and Burn him.
For a brief moment, Knife's body gleamed silver, as if he had coated himself in metal.
The blast of fire was immense, bathing him in flame. The searing heat got to him, burning his chest. Knife managed to endure; but it took it's toll, forcing him to take a knee with a metallic, screeching sound from the pain.
He knew that the next attack, with the burn damage, would overwhelm him. So he had to throw everything into this. The silver coating on his body hadn't taken the damage for him; but it absorbed the fiery energy. With a slash of his arm the coating shattered and fired off towards Merwin in the form of a Metal Burst, retaliating with amplified damage.
Merwin barely had time to prepare before he was hit, with a yelp he's knocked back and sent rolling, landing as a heap of dark fur a few feet away. Everything hurting.
He snarls and tries to force himself back to his feet, but they keep giving way the moment his tries. He can't battle anymore. Knife wins.
The Houndoom thrashes in frustration, tail lashing, horns tossing, bursts of fire flying, tiring himself out more until he's a panting heap of disgruntled growling.
He snorts a cloud of smoke and looks up and over at Knife. "Strong."
Knife waited until he was done thrashing, before calmly approaching. Had they been wild creatures, this is where he would deliver the killing blow before dividing the prey up for the group. But they weren't wild, they were both owned by trainers. So he tucked his blades into his arms, making it clear he didn't intend to kill Merwin.
"I am strong. And you are not weak." But not as strong as himself. He recognised Merwin, now that he had stepped closer. "...You're part of the pack with a trainer. The ones who roam in her footsteps."
Merwin huffs another puff of smoke, irritated Knife did not recognize him from previous sparring. Not that he'd put much of a reason to be remembered right now.
"The Pack goes where the Leader goes..." He mutters. Lana may head The Pack, but Merwin took a snatch of pride in that The Pack followed Diana, Lana simply lead them to her.
Though, it may be more complicated than that but no wasn't the time.
Merwin tosses his head. "You are Knife. You belong to the Ghost type human. You are far from your old territory."
"Our old territory was no longer adequate." Knife responded calmly. He didn't know the current standing between Diana and Walter, but he was familiar enough with the dogs that had strayed close to their grounds. Including Merwin.
"It has been a while since we sparred. A pity you have not maintained it, Merwin." While aloof, it was a shame. He remembered their fights lasting much longer.
"Because you are running." Merwin says with smug knowledge and a wolfish grin.
At Knife's last comment it turns to a snarl, hackles raising along his back as he send a warning lick of flame the Bisharp's way. "Ask your burns if I have maintained!"
Loss or not, Merwin knew that Inferno had hit, and a successful Inferno always resulted in a Burn. He'll take pride in Knife having that sting to remind him until he is healed.
"I would ask your HP, but it's gone." Knife responded, cuttingly. The burn hurt, but it was just that; a burn. He was still the victor here, regardless of his state afterwards.
"Your trainer runs. Isn't that why you are here as well? My trainer at least showed his blade and stabbed at the hand over him before he left." Knife had always respected Walter's willingness to injure himself, in training or in those moods of his. Striking back against Team Rocket had also impressed him, especially as he knew Walter had physically attacked researchers who tried to stop him from breaking Alessa's cage.
"Mine survives." He works on trying to shift his body weight so he's not completely slumped on the ground. If he can get himself to sit he'll feel better. "She's let me wet my fangs on plenty of throats since we got here."
"As does mine." Knife watched him struggle for a moment before stepping over and sitting, legs crossed. They had easy visibility if any other challenger approached. He set his jaw with a slight hiss - damn burn.
"Throats of Pokemon or people?" He was curious. Knife himself had little problem in attacking humans. And to his pride, his trainer had little issue in bloodying his hands either, judging by the fight he'd had in Goldenrod.
He takes umbrage with being stepped over, snapping at Knife's feet as he does before making another effort to move. His injuries protest as he finally manages to put enough strength in his front legs to push his head and torso up off the ground.
"Both. But more people." While the majority Diana's Pokemon were more than willing to get into battles with the Rocket members, sometimes it was deemed necessary for Diana's saftey that the Trainer themselves be on the receiving end.
While Diana has a few Pokemon who were fine outright attacking humans, Merwin was the one most comfortable (and also seemed to take pleasure from it). Though Lana had requested he try to do it out of sight of Diana for the most part. Again, Merwin didn't mind. There was a thrill in chasing down a terrified human.
There's definitely a gleam in Knife's eyes as he sat with him. "Good. I've dealt with some as well. But I have to get them, otherwise the Luxray attacks them first." It's become a friendly competition between them in a sense. He and Chaos were keeping a tally.
"They're such weak things. I don't know how they survive." His long tongue licks along his lips. "Fun to tear apart though."
At the mention of a Luxray his ears flatten, having his own attention hogging Luxray to compete with. "Overgrown cat." He shouldn't complain though, Caine was one of his more interesting sparring partners.
"She's better than others." Like the Audino who insisted that Walter 'shouldn't hurt himelf'. He always rolled his eyes at her when she talked like that. Walter was fine! He was merely toughening himself, and showing that he wasn't afraid of a little pain either.
"But yes, the humans are weak. It's a relief to have my trainer choose his own path now."
Merwin would shrug but his body isn't built for that kind of gesture so instead he tilts his head slightly. "The expense of a pack, disagreeable pack mates."
Though it would be argued Merwin was the most disagreeable in the pack, he would of course counter than those too weak to pull their own weight were the disagreeable ones.
"No. We do not have a destination yet. But I know he plans to collect all the badges, and face the Elite 4." Knife didn't know where they would set their roots again. But it didn't concern him. He was merely satisfied that Walter was out to prove his strength. Maybe they'll end up destroying another building.
Merwin huffs a cloud of smoke in approval. "That's a good plan."
He's feeling stable enough on his feet now to sit up properly and scratch at his ear. "We're wandering right now. I don't know if there's a bigger plan. But we've been fighting more, which is good."
"Perhaps a plan will arise for her soon." It didn't seem wise, to travel without a motive. But Knife preferred plans and forethought to mindless wandering. It was being reckless and stubborn that had lead to him being captured by Walter, and while he saw it as a folly now he could recognise that it had brought him to a good Trainer.
"Do you know if you will stay here for long? I could use a like-minded sparring partner again."
"Maybe, it doesn't really matter." Merwin was less concerned. So long as he was able to keep fighting, he didn't care how or why it happened.
"She came to see your trainer, so I suppose until he leaves." He flicks his long, whip-like tail in interest. "Sparring again would be fun." Certainly a better way to pass the time than listening to Joy prattle on.
"We reside near here." He'll be waiting to see Merwin each day now. He doubted anyone cared if he insisted on picking up extra guard shifts. The only issue would be if Walter needed him, but that would give him more focused training as well so it wasn't a problem really.

And he's knows another is coming, but he doesn't aim to dodge, because now Knife is in close range and his double boost to his special has taken hold.
The hound opens his mouth, an impossible amount of heat the only warning before he releases a powerful Flamethrower at point blank range.
